Project Overview

The White City South Campus Infrastructure Delivery Plan is the ‘how’ we are going to develop the public realm, infrastructure and enable future building plots.

These works obtained outline planning permission in March 2021. The approach to the development of the South Campus masterplan is to install the site wide infrastructure now, enabling future buildings to be constructed on a serviced plot basis, rather than approaching each building piecemeal.

Improving accessibility and connectivity

Key to the success of the masterplan and the project is a new vehicular and pedestrian access bridge. The new bridge will be located adjacent to the Depot Road entrance of South Campus and will span over the Central Line. It will provide a more direct, link with Wood Lane and will replace the existing Depot Road bridge. Principal benefits are:

  • Improved accessibility and connectivity, better integrating the campus with the locality.
  • Safer, segregated, and easier access for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.
  • A greener and more attractive entrance frontage on Wood Lane.

Segregated cycle lanes will tie into existing cycle routes in the wider area.

Pedestrians will benefit from a greener, segregated access onto campus, with improved accessibility.

The newly landscaped public realm space will be open to the public and is conceived as a continuation of the public realm works within the residential scheme. Around 70% of the site’s public realm areas will be installed as part of the project, to create a genuine place which our community, partners and surrounding neighbours will come and use and enjoy.

Construction timeline and details

The aim is for the new bridge to open in the autumn of 2024 for vehicular and pedestrian access.  Further works, such as the construction of a segregated pedestrian walkway, hard and soft landscaping and the demolition of the old depot road bridge will be completed by autumn 2025. Our Principal Contractor will be P.J Carey (Contractors) Ltd, a highly regarded construction company and a member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

We have been working with Carey, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Transport for London (TfL) to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and campus users.

Most of the work will take place during normal working hours, but some work will need to take place overnight because of TfL requirements for running the Central Line. Timings and information on overnight works will be communicated by Carey, via notices on our hoardings.

Access to our campus from Wood Lane

During construction, the existing Depot Road bridge will remain open as usual. Access for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will remain, but with minor re-routing once on campus. These diversions will be signposted.

It should also be noted that as part of a separate local highways project, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF) will carry out road reconfiguration works on the junction around Wood Lane and South Africa Road. Details on this will be released by LBHF in due course.
